Dr. Jim Kokkinakis graduated from UNSW in 1982. He took over the practice of Penhryn Thomas, who is considered the grandfather of Contact Lenses in the Australasia area. In 1996 he was the first Optometrist to work within the largest Ophthalmology Centre in Australia. His skill as a specialist Contact Lens fitter was enhanced here. He is a senior lecturer at the Optometry School at UNSW and is the primary Optometrist at the Eye Practice, arguably Australia's most technologically advanced Optometry Practice.
Installed the SMAP which for the first time allows mapping the Scleral. This allows the customisation of Scleral Lens fitting for the most complex corneal conditions, such as Keratoconus, Corneal Grafts, post lasik, traumatic scarring.
